Library Space Study

A library space study was commissioned by Library administration in January, 2006 with the intention of repurposing and renovating the second and third floors of the John Peace Library building over the next year. The preliminary “Facility Programming Study” (1.2MB, pdf format) is now available for review.

By reassessing current space utilization and by planning for future needs, the John Peace Library will be better positioned to become a significant, responsive, and relevant instrument of instruction, research, and learning for the students, faculty and staff of the University of Texas at San Antonio.

The goals of the project are to:

  • Create a more attractive, user-friendly space for campus constituents, including new carpet, furniture, and improved lighting.
  • Create an Information Commons with robust computers for student use in completing course projects independently or in small groups.
  • Improve the use of space throughout the second and third floors of JPL in order to maximize this space until the 4th floor becomes available.
