About Cataloging

Catalogers ensure that items are represented in UCAT, our online catalog, with as much detail and accuracy as possible, so that patrons can identify and locate the materials they need. The Library's collections are cataloged and organized in accordance with national standards. The Library follows Library of Congress (LC) practice, the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules 2nd edition, and is a member of AMIGOS and OCLC for creating and obtaining Bibliographic records in the MARC Format.

Need to get a material that has been received by the library but not yet cataloged or otherwise made available?

For more information about the Library's Cataloging department, contact:

David Hughes,
Head of Cataloging

Hours of Operation

The Cataloging Unit follows normal business hours and is not open on weekends. Any rush requests for in-process materials made after 5 p.m. will be processed the following day.

Resources

Cataloging staff consult a number of print and electronic resources when performing their various duties. Many of these resources are located in the Cataloging department, and are represented in UCAT with a location of "JPL Catalog Dept. Stacks". Patrons interested in these materials should inquire at the Reference Desk (select list of these tools).
