Bibliographic Instruction Center (BIC) Policy
Non-Library use of the BIC
The BIC, being the only demonstration room available for library staff, is rarely available for individual faculty reservations except under very limited circumstances.
- A UTSA faculty member may use the BIC when working with a library bibliographer in teaching subject-specific library research. The librarian would be responsible for the opening and the closing of the room (or would arrange for another staff member to be responsible for the opening and closing) and seeing that the room is placed in order after the class. The librarian must reserve the BIC for the faculty member with a minimum of two week’s notice.
- In no case will the total of all faculty reservations exceed two hours per week during peak library instruction times (second through sixth week of classes during the Spring and Fall semesters and second and third weeks during Summer session) nor more than three hours per week during non-peak times. A single UTSA faculty member may not reserve the room more than once per semester per class.
- A library staff member must be present for setting up the equipment and for closing the BIC immediately after the session. The BIC key always remains with the library staff member.
- Library classes, scheduled and anticipated, always take precedence.
- Alternatives are available to UTSA faculty such as the Seminar Rooms (reservation available through the Circulation Desk - (210) 458 4574), the Library Electronic Classroom (LEC) or by contacting Academic Technology (http://dlc.utsa.edu/services/servicesClassrooms.aspx) to have equipment brought to the instructor’s classroom.
