Databases & Article Searching

SciFinder Web (UTSA subscription)
This contains Chemical Abstracts in its entirety from 1907 to the present, along with CAS Registry, CHEMCATS, CHEMLIST, CASREACT, and MEDLINE. Through ChemPort there is access to full text for certain articles. An added feature is the ability to view substances in three-dimensional representations.

UTSA faculty, students, and staff can search SciFinder from any computer with a properly configured web browser connected to or proxied through the campus network. Users must register and create a personal SciFinder account using a valid email address that ends in 'utsa.edu.' Off-campus users must also enter a last name and Banner ID.

To create a personal SciFinder account:

If you already have a personal SciFinder account:
Create a personal SciFinder Web account.

Sign in to SciFinder Web.

SciFinder Scholar is also currently accessible from office and laboratory computers on the campus network using installed client software.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The client software version will no longer be supported after August 31, 2009. Please create a personal SciFinder account for SciFinder Web using the registration button above.

Web of Science (UTSA subscription)
This is the Science Citation Index in electronic form from 1975 onward. This is an in-depth general science index, which makes it very useful for interdisciplinary work. It is the only index that has both a listing of articles cited in the article in the entry and those articles that cited that article. This is very useful for expanding one’s bibliography. Citations Only

General Science Full Text (UTSA subscription)
This is a basic general science index that is useful when one seeks a few basic articles. The coverage is from 1983 onward, and full text of articles from selected journals begins in 1999. Full Text

ACS Publications (American Chemical Society) (UTSA subscription) Provides full text access to all journals published by the American Chemical Society. Updated regularly. Full Text

Annual Reviews Online (UTSA subscription)
Especially useful series:
Biochemistry Table of Contents from 1984; Full text from 1997
Physical Chemistry Table of Contents from 1984; Full text from 1996. Full Text

ScienceDirect (UTSA subscription)
Provides full text/full image access to approximately 700 journals published by Elsevier Science. Indexes and abstracts articles from more than 1,100 journals in the life, physical, medical, technical, and social sciences. Includes Elsevier, North Holland, Pergamon and JAI publications from 1995. Full Text/Full Image

Kluwer (UTSA subscription)
Provides full text/full image access to journals published by Kluwer in all academic disciplines. Updated constantly. Full Text/Full Image

Springer (UTSA subscription)
Provides electronic access to nearly 500 journals published by Springer-Verlag/Bertelsmann Springer publishing group. Coverage includes the areas of chemical sciences, economics, environmental sciences, life sciences, law, medicine, computer science, engineering, geosciences, mathematics, and physics. Dates of coverage vary from title to title. Updated daily. Full Text

Wiley (UTSA subscription)
Provides full-text access to approximately 200 of the more than 400 journals published by Wiley, plus tables of contents and abstracts. Updated constantly. Full Text
