Location of Newspapers at UTSA

Current: Current paper copies of newspapers are shelved in JPL Reference Room, Current Periodicals section in the John Peace Library. Several current newspapers are also available in the UTSA Downtown Library. Check Current Newspapers Received at the UTSA Library for titles.

Back files: Older copies of some newspapers are kept on microfilm in the JPL Reference Room at the John Peace Library. Look up the title of the newspaper in UCAT and note call number and years owned. Microfilm is shelved in Microfilm Cabinets by call number and then by date.

Electronic: The UTSA Library subscribes to many Web-based databases that include full text news sources. Check E-Journal Locator to identify and link to databases with the full text of specific newspapers.

Free Internet: Many national and international newspapers provide the current issue free over the internet. A few provide some full-text archives of older issues. Only a very few, such as the New York Times Book Review, provide extensive free archives of newspaper articles.

Newspapers not owned by UTSA

To find out if another library in San Antonio owns a newspaper, check WorldCat. You may then go to another library to read and/or copy the article. The union list can also be accessed through WorldCat.

To obtain copies of articles from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan Services, pick up blank request forms and turn in completed ones at the Circulation Desk. It is not necessary to know which library owns the newspaper. You can also request copies using the ILL online form.
