Databases

data·base: noun 1. An organized collection of information, data, or citations stored in electronic format that may be searched for specific information or records by techniques specific to each databse.

UTSA, Library Lingo

Because databases are organized collections of information, they are different from networks like the Internet, which has no consistent method of organization.

Although the Internet maybe be used to access databases, information located there is not usually found by using search engines like Google or Yahoo. Most of the UTSA library databases are not free. The library selects the best databases for our students, faculty, and staff and the subscriptions are paid for, in part, by student fees.
