Changes to the Library's CD-ROM LAN

The Library has made changes to its CD-ROM LAN (local area network) at the John Peace Library. Due to evolving technology, it has become difficult for the Library to support a CD-ROM LAN. As a result, the Library has reconfigured its networked CD-ROMs so that they are available on one of two workstations at the John Peace Library.

Resources available on workstation one are the English Short Title Catalogue and the Foundation Grants Index. Resources on the first workstation are not available remotely or for use by more than one library patron at a time. SciFinder Scholar may be accessed on the second workstation by faculty, students, and staff currently affiliated with UTSA. SciFinder Scholar is also accessible on campus to UTSA faculty and staff via special client software. For more information on using these resources, visit the reference desk at the John Peace Library or call (210) 458-4573.

The Foundation Grants Index is also available for use at the Downtown Campus Library. Other CD-ROM resources available at the Downtown Campus Library include SciFinder Scholar, American Heritage Dictionary, Dictionary of National Biography, Classic 100 Poems, American Decades, and City of San Antonio Unified Development Code. Please contact the Downtown Campus Library staff at (210) 458-2446 for further assistance with these resources.

Note: Oxford English Dictionary is now available online. It was previously available on CD-ROM at the Downtown Campus Library.

The Library's long-term goal is to transition as many CD-ROM resources as possible to web-based resources, making them available to a wider audience, both on-campus and off-. The Library will do so as funding and time allow.
