UTSA hosts talk by bestselling author Steven Johnson

The UTSA Libraries, in partnership with the Faculty Center, is proud to present author and media theorist Steven Johnson at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 14 in the Main Building Auditorium (0.104) on the Main Campus. The event is free and open to the community.

Johnson’s talk, entitled Where do Good Ideas Come From? The Power of Idea Incubation at a Tier One University will explore the factors that have encouraged creativity across history, particularly how they apply to ascending Tier One universities like UTSA.

Chosen by Prospect magazine as one of the Top Ten Brains of the Digital Future, Johnson’s publications have influenced everything from progressive thought on urban planning to the battle against 21st century terrorism. He is the author of seven books on the intersection of science, technology and personal experience, including Where Good Ideas Come From: The Natural History of Innovation.

Named by The Wall Street Journal as “one of the most persuasive advocates for the role of collaboration in innovation,” Johnson's research on innovation recently inspired a six-part Emmy-nominated PBS series entitled HOW WE GOT TO NOW  that aired in the fall of 2014. The companion book debuted at #4 on the New York Times bestseller list.

Johnson’s talk at the 2010 TEDGlobal conference has been watched online by more than three million viewers, and his Twitter account (@stevenbjohnson) has 1.4 million followers.

UTSA's Faculty Center opened in January 2014 to foster and support the professional development of the university’s teachers and researchers. The center is a partnership between the UTSA Libraries, UTSA Research and the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Support.

This event is supported by a generous contribution from Sawtelle Financial Management
