Teaching Assistant Training
The TA training program offered by the UTSA Libraries Faculty Services consists of three phases.
This year, TAs will be able to self-enroll in the Phase 2 online TA Modules through Blackboard. Detailed instructions to access the online modules will be sent directly to TAs by email.
Phase 1 - TA ORIENTATION (ONLINE Spring 2015)
During the online orientation module participants will learn what it means to be a TA and hear from other experienced TAs. Additionally, you will learn about effective teaching practices and presentation methods.
Phase 2 - TRAINING MODULES (ONLINE)
This training component includes several online modules that focus on different content and skill areas. To complete this phase, TAs will review the content and take a final quiz for each module. The final exam integrates questions from all modules.
Phase 3 - Teaching Demonstration (Face-to-Face)
This training component involves a follow-up session to give TAs the opportunity to prepare and give a mock teaching demonstration. Following the teaching demonstrations, TAs will receive feedback and recommendations from their peers.
The teaching demonstration is structured so that you will be presenting to 5-6 other TAs and a mentor. There will be two sessions a day Monday, February 23 – Friday, February 27 from 9am - noon OR 1:00 - 4:00. Please start thinking about the day and time that you will need to sign up for and plan your work schedules accordingly. You will need to attend the entire session. This part of the training is MANDATORY.
