LIBRARY ACCESSIBILITY
John Peace Library
Entry and Elevators
Building entrances are located on the west side of the building, facing the Sombrilla (the campus courtyard) and on the east side of the building facing the Main Building. The Sombrilla side has both first and second floor public entrances. The Main Building side has just a first floor entrance.
To access the library between the hours of 6 a.m. - 10 p.m., use the Main Building route. For after-hours access, use the Business Building route. Both routes are included in the map below.
Directions from the Main Building into JPL (Primary Route):
- Enter the Main Building via the ground floor entrance
- Take elevator to the first floor
- Exit the elevator to the right
- Exit the Main Building via the sliding doors and turn to the left
- Go towards the left side of JPL where there is an ADA access ramp
- Enter JPL via the ADA ramp
Directions from the Business Building into JPL (After-Hours Route)
- Use the call button outside the main entrance to the Business Building to gain entry
- Take elevator to the second floor
- Exit the elevator to the right
- Exit the Business Building via the sliding doors and turn to the left
- The ADA access ramp will be in front of you

ADAPTIVE TECHNOLOGY
Adaptive Technology Computer Lab – John Peace Library

- Inspiration 8
- Kurzweil 1000
- Kurzweil 3000
Additional equipment in the lab includes:
- CCTV
- 2 scanners
The Adaptive Technology Lab is open during normal library hours. The computers are reserved for students registered with Disability Services. Students who have questions or issues regarding the lab can contact any Student Computing Services staff member at the Information Desk or contact OITConnect at (210) 458-5555 or oitconnect@utsa.edu.
Hearing Assistance Devices – John Peace Library
The GroupSpot (2.01.16) and Assembly (4.04.22) rooms are each equipped with a hearing assistance system that is integrated into the audiovisual equipment in the room. There are two types of receivers available for use:
- LR-200-072 Standard 3-Channel RF Receiver (72 MHz)
- LA-166 Neck Loop
These devices are available for checkout from the Front Desk (GroupSpot), and the Fourth Floor Info Desk (Assembly Room).
ADA Computer Workstation – Downtown Library
At the Downtown Campus Library, the ADA workstation is located across from the periodicals shelf near the group study rooms.
The ADA workstation is loaded with the following software:
- ZoomText
- Freedom Scientific JAWS
- Inspiration 8
- Kurzweil 1000
- Kurzweil 3000
Laptops
ZoomText is available on laptops that can be checked out at JPL and the Downtown Campus Library. See our Laptop Borrowing Policy for more information about checking out a laptop.
