Appealing Fines
If you wish to appeal a library fine, you should first discusses the charge with the Front Desk supervisor at the library where the item was checked-out.
If no resolution is found, you may then submit an appeal. Appeals must be filed within one semester from the end of the semester for which the fines were assessed.
To submit an appeal, complete our appeal form.
An appeal based solely on inability to pay or disagreement with the fine structure will not be considered.
Written appeals should be as detailed as possible and include:
- Date, approximate time and location to which you returned the materials, or
- Date, approximate time, location at which you paid the fine in question, and note whether you paid by card, check or voucher.
- Your reason for appeal
Your appeal will be reviewed by the Head of Access Services. A decision will be made based on the information available, and a written response will be emailed to you within one work week of the date your appeal was received.
