Altmetric Attention Score and their relationships to Views and Citations in the Journal of the American Chemical Society

This presentation contributes to the discussion on the relationship between views, citations and Altmetric score and to identify the metrics most likely to complement the traditional citations in scholarly publishing in chemistry. We used the materials published in a top multi-disciplinary chemistry journal for three years (7,566 records from 154 issues), 2018-2020. We analyzed the characteristics of their citations, views and AAS of the articles, communications, additions/corrections, and perspectives. We identified whether: (1) materials that are highly viewed are correlated with higher citations and higher AAS, (2) AAS correlates with more views and higher citations; (3) multi-authored works correlates with higher ASS, higher number of views or higher number of citations; and (4) whether articles with authors from more than one country correlate with higher number of views, higher citations and AAS. This lightning talk will present information to identify the trends and correlations between the various metrics.
