Systematic Reviews: From One-Hit Wonder to the Long and Winding Road

Texas Tech’s librarians have been offering a wide variety of workshops that are almost like one-shot sessions, usually directed at graduate students and faculty. When assessing the Systematic Reviews workshop, we discovered that a one-shot session was not enough. Therefore, during the 2022 spring semester, we collaborated with different areas of librarian expertise (STEM, Education and Graduate School) to expand this session into a series with each focusing on an aspect of the Systematic Review process, with the goal of publishing a systematic review article. We used active and flipped teaching methods as we emailed the students during the weeks between sessions with additional information about the process, to keep them motivated, while also being available for consultation. Future plans are to include a pre and post survey assessing the sessions, and to help the students research avenues to publish their reviews.
