Speaker: J. Denice Lewis,
When teaching an information literacy credit-bearing course, it can be difficult to assess what students learn, retain, and apply when conducting research. In the LIB290: Information Literacy for Engineering course that I developed and taught Spring 2022, I had students explain how they constructed their search string, what databases/tools they used, and how they selected their resources in a variety of different assignments. Reviewing the videos unveiled misconceptions in using phrase searching and grouping as well as revealed the improvement students made prior to starting the instruction and at the end of the semester. My plan: Share lessons learned, review the analytics, and propose a methodology for implementation.
