Ku has worked independently to find open educational resources from a variety of repositories to incorporate into his own lecture slides and teaching materials. He uses MIPS Assembly Language Programming using QtSpim from Open Textbook Library, content from Saylor, and CPU Pipeline Cache Simulator.

More from Ku:

"The Adopt a Free Textbook program enables our UTSA faculty to play an active role in keeping costs down for students while also providing the nationally recognized quality of education that students have come to expect from UTSA. Recent studies show that in addition to reducing costs for students, the use of free online textbooks and other open educational resources can help keep students on track toward graduation by improving grades and pass rates. These benefits can be particularly pronounced for students with limited financial means who might otherwise forego purchasing traditional textbooks to save money. That applies very well to the current UTSA student profile, most of them are first generation university students and also have full-time day jobs to support their families."
