Webster is using primary sources as her primary readings for this course, including The WPA and the Slave Narrative Collection and Fugitive Slave Advertisements, both available from the Library of Congress. Other archives like Documenting the American South sponsored by the University Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade sponsored by the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship are a great fit as well. In addition, she has identified book chapters and articles available through the UTSA libraries as supplementary readings, including several from JSTOR.
More from Webster:
"In place of the textbook, I assign book chapters and articles that are available through the library's e-books or through JSTOR. I have already begun using these materials as supplemental, and adopted the course to use primary sources available online through Documenting the American South.
I share resources with other faculty including digital databases and archives including Fugitive Slavery Advertisements, W.P.A. Narratives through the Library of Congress, Documenting the American South, and the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade Database. Many of these archives contain sources that could be used in broader American history and World history courses."
