Lloyd-Hazlett has used a mix of free and low-cost learning materials as replacements for her primary textbook for COU 6003, including e-books and journal articles from the UTSA Libraries as well as open resources. She is also partnering with theUTSA Office of Information Technology on Lecture Capture services to record and share guest presentations from community partners connected to her course.

“OER are a strong fit for my COU 6003 course for a number of reasons. Most significantly, the community-focused course sections include applied service-learning projects wherein students conduct actual program evaluations for local agencies. Applied learning engagements such as these benefit the San Antonio community and are also instrumental to developing consultation and program evaluation competency. While the general course structure is consistent, the specific program evaluation projects change each semester. For example, projects explore behavioral health integration in primary care settings, while past projects examined patient health literacy. As such, required course materials and readings vary each semester. OER supports the flexible integration of timely and individualized course materials necessary for my class across semesters.”
