“Hon 3503, “Intentional and Sustainable Living” is a fall semester study abroad course which explores what it means to live the good life both in our present circumstances and looking ahead to a hotter future. Using no-cost textbooks allows us to access a community of reader/practitioners and to include our host partners in Costa Rica without cost barriers to participation. I expect this will enable more richly informed conversations and field experiences, resulting in real benefits for myself, the students, and our international partners. Extending this as a vision for the future, expanded use of free texts will allow for greater mutuality and collaborative learning across geographic and socio-economic divides.”
