Long is replacing his previous traditional textbook, which cost $150 with the free and open access Introduction to Econometrics with R, an empirical companion to Stock and Watson’s book in R.
More from Liu:
“The interest in freely available educational resources, such as books and statistical software, is soaring. Over the recent years, the free statistical software R has become an integral part of the curricula of econometrics classes. A striking advantage of using R in econometrics is that it enables students to explicitly document their analysis step-by-step such that it is easy to update and to expand. The free book I chose seamlessly intertwines theoretical core knowledge and empirical skills in undergraduate econometrics. The high expense of textbooks can be a hurdle for students in higher education. These open educational resources, including free textbooks and statistical software, reduce students' costs. They are certainly the best news to the students and the future of education.”
