The team is using a UTSA Libraries Springer e-book Differential Equations as the primary textbook for MAT 3613 .

More from the team:

“For this course, and its successor course, Differential Equations II, we typically enroll about 200 students per year (including the summer semester). We expect the free text to accommodate all of these students, as well as those future students of this course in perpetuity.

“We commend our Librarian colleagues for their insight and noble idea to encourage faculty to use textbooks that are free of cost, and thus giving our students relief from the high cost of textbooks. Our Department has been concerned about this problem for a long time. When the first proposer taught a College Algebra class during the summer of 2015, he was shocked to learn that the required textbook was costing around 250 dollars with no availability of soft cover. After checking the internet, he found a couple similar Algebra books that could be downloaded free of charge. So, the students returned their expensive books and started using the one at no cost.”
