Featured Artist Carmen Lomas Garza

A Kingsville native who grew up in the Rio Grande Valley, Carmen Lomas Garza found her voice in the Chicano movement of the 1960s, documenting everyday life in Mexican American communities. She depicts family traditions, memories and shared experiences in her pieces in order to build community pride. With works in paintings, papel picado and Dia de los Muertos ofrendas, she is featured in museums across the U.S. and Mexico, including the permanent collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.
