Using Online Resources

The University of Texas at San Antonio Libraries provide access to materials for which the copyright is held by owners other than the university. Use of these materials and resources is restricted by applicable license agreements and copyright law.

Terms of Use

Online research materials provided by the UTSA Libraries are intended for research, education, teaching and personal uses only. Individual publishers may monitor web activity. Violation of the terms of license agreements could result in cancellation of the service for the entire university.

  • Access is limited to authorized users: students, faculty and staff at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
  • Faculty and staff must have an active appointment in the UTSA Human Resources employee system. UTSA Libraries do not grant access to those without an appointment.
  • Non-authorized users who visit the UTSA Libraries in person are allowed to access some of the same online research materials via guest computers in the library buildings.
  • Sharing access to computers, usernames, identification numbers or passwords with non-authorized users is not allowed and may result in disciplinary action.
  • It is prohibited to redistribute print or digital copies of materials to non-authorized users.
  • Downloading entire journal issues, volumes or databases is prohibited.
  • Non-enrolled students, including master's and Ph.D. students, may not access online resources from off-campus. Please see the UTSA Graduate Catalog for more information about enrollment requirements for use of university resources.
  • Incoming faculty members and students working to finish "incomplete" grades may contact us for more information about off-campus access to online resources.
  • Most resource providers categorize data mining or auto-crawling as inappropriate use. UTSA researchers who anticipate a project that requires mining data or auto-crawling any library database should contact a subject librarian to request permission from the database provider before beginning the activity.
  • In adherence to policies outlined in Section 9.11, Use of Copyrighted Materials, in the University Handbook of Operating Procedures, and to the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act, UTSA reserves the right to terminate computing services of users who repeatedly infringe upon the rights of copyright owners.
