UTSA faculty looking to integrate unique content from the UTSA Special Collections into their courses are invited to apply for the Faculty Teaching in the Archives Grants for the 2020-2021 academic year.
FTIA grants offer an opportunity to implement innovative, archives-centered approaches to courses by encouraging in-depth engagement with archival research, introducing a variety of primary sources, building critical thinking skills, and stressing participation in collaborative projects and presentations. They aim to generate partnerships and collaborations between students and special collections librarians and aim to foster interdisciplinary teaching curriculum.
Successful proposals will demonstrate how students will benefit from the opportunity to select, analyze, and use primary sources to learn and create new knowledge. Proposals will be evaluated for:
- Feasibility
- Depth of integration
- Innovative pedagogy
- Partnership building

The UTSA Libraries Special Collections preserves and provides access to the legacies of UTSA, San Antonio and South Texas through a rich array of rare books, photographs and primary sources. Strengths of the collections include UTSA’s institutional history, women and women’s history, activists/activism, Mexican Americans, San Antonio authors and artists, Mexican and Tex-Mex culinary history, and urban development and growth.
