Adán Medrano donates his archives to UTSA Special Collections

The UTSA Libraries Special Collections has received a donation of archival papers from San Antonio native and award-winning Mexican cookbook author and filmmaker Adán Medrano. He is known in the culinary world for coining the term "Texas Mexican," which he explains is the style of food he grew up eating. He says it’s “very strong in the grassroots community but totally lost in the status quo."

After nearly 50 years JPL still essential to student success
Today officially marks the 47th anniversary of the John Peace Library’s (JPL) opening to UTSA students and faculty. This milestone was recently highlighted by students from the College of Liberal and Fine Arts (COLFA) Digital Marketing Internship program, who chose to focus on the JPL and its impact on the university community for their 2023 Spring semester class project.
UTSA Libraries shares user satisfaction survey results
The UTSA Libraries recently administered LibQUAL+, a user satisfaction survey from the Association of Research Libraries to solicit, track, understand and act upon users' opinions on library facilities, collections and services. Through a four-week period from mid-March to mid-April, UTSA Libraries received 2,435 survey responses from the UTSA community. Overall, user satisfaction with the Libraries increased from 7.68 in 2019 to 7.73 in 2023.

UTSA Libraries exhibit showcases ‘Works from the Permanent Collection’ at the ITC
Yellow Lotus painting by Lowell NesbittThe University of Texas at San Antonio Works from the Permanent Collection,” a new art exhibition will run from March 30, 2023, to January 29, 2024, at the UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures. The exhibit includes works from 12 artists—comprising paintings, photography, prints, and tapestries.

UTSA Awarded Grant to Self-Assess OER Program and Faculty/Student Engagement

UTSA has received a $10,000 grant from Driving Open Educational Resources Sustainability for Student Success (DOERS3) to implement the “DOERSS Equity Through OER Rubric” on campus throughout 2023, expanding access and enhancing the university’s efforts to provide wider access to textbooks and learning resources.

UTSA Remembers Jesse Treviño

UTSA mourns the passing of one of San Antonio’s iconic artists, Jesse Treviño. A visionary, Jesse captured the joy and beauty of day-to-day life in San Antonio in his paintings. His realistic painting style captured the vibrancy of the people of Westside San Antonio.

UTSA Libraries opens JPL third floor with goals for the future

The UTSA John Peace Library's (JPL) third floor has re-opened as a brighter, more modernized space with new furniture, new study rooms and collaborative spaces. Connected to the iconic Sombrilla, the JPL is often referred to as the “heart of the campus” and is one of the university’s five original buildings.
The project is part of a multi-phased initiative to reimagine and transform JPL spaces and their furnishings to meet the learning needs of 21st century students.

ITC and UTSA Libraries celebrate Black History Month
(January 20, 2023) Black History Month logo To coincide with the annual observance of African American History Month, the UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures will unveil new content in the African American Texans exhibit including the display of new quilts that highlight the “Fabric of a People” and the exhibition of a new student-produced oral history project entitled “You Take it from Here.”
UTSA Libraries announces faculty grants: Application period now open
(January 5, 2023) UTSA Libraries offers two grants that support teaching: 1) Faculty Teaching in the Archives (FTIA) and 2) Adopt-a-Free Textbook grants. The application period is now open to any UTSA Faculty who would like to apply for either or both grants. The deadline to submit applications for either grant is March 20, 2023.
UTSA Libraries’ latest book embodies the story of the accordion and Tejano music
(January 2, 2023) Accordion book created by book artist Peter Thomas UTSA Libraries Special Collections has announced the debut of “The Real Tejano Conjunto Accordion Book,” a one-of-a-kind book and piece of art that tells the story of accordionists and the musical art form that they helped develop in and around San Antonio and the Rio Grande Valley.
