Hubert Watson, art collector and UTSA alumnus, has donated art prints from his personal collection to the UTSA Libraries. The prints will hang in the John Peace Library in a yet to be determined location, adding to the rich collection of artwork gracing the library’s walls for students to enjoy.
The gifts consist of two prints entitled, “Still I Rise” and “Get on The Floor” by Charles Criner, a Houston printmaker, known for the strong narrative content of his works drawing on his personal experiences and those of other African Americans.
Hubert has been collecting art since 1998 and has made donations to the UTSA Alumni Association, UTSA Athletics and the San Antonio Museum of Art. He has been a life member of the UTSA Alumni Association since 2001.
Hubert’s appreciation of art was passed down to him from his parents, who were once collectors themselves. His donation to UTSA is in honor of their memory and their shared love of creative expression.
“I’ve enjoyed seeing UTSA grow alongside the city of San Antonio and witnessing it develop a prominent art collection over the years,” said Hubert.
“It’s always inspiring to see fellow Roadrunners give back,” said Felipe Barrera, Director of Development for the UTSA Libraries. “Hubert’s passion and generosity is a great example for us all and we look forward to sharing these pieces with our students and faculty.”
