The search is underway for UTSA’s next dean of libraries.

Executive search firm Greenwood/Asher & Associates has been hired to work with an internal search committee to identify dynamic leadership candidates for the position. The 12-member committee, chaired by Dan Gelo, dean of UTSA’s College of Liberal and Fine Arts, consists of faculty, staff and students from across disciplines and administrative areas.

Krisellen Maloney, former dean of libraries, left UTSA in July to join Rutgers University as their vice president for information services and university librarian. Maloney had been at UTSA since 2009 and led a five-year, multimillion-dollar renovation of the John Peace Library.

Mary Dixson, assistant dean for faculty services, has been tapped to serve as interim dean of libraries until a permanent replacement is found. Dixson joined the libraries in 2014 from Northwest Vista College where she served as dean of interdisciplinary programs.

The UTSA Libraries are on the forefront of reimagining the 21st century academic library. With four locations across three campuses, the libraries are fueling UTSA’s ascent to Tier One status by providing students and faculty with seamless, comprehensive access to information and learning resources as well as innovative spaces for active learning and interdisciplinary scholarship.
