UTSA Libraries offers two grants that support teaching: 1) Faculty Teaching in the Archives (FTIA) and 2) Adopt-a-Free Textbook grants. The application period is now open to any UTSA Faculty who would like to apply for either or both grants. The deadline to submit applications for either grant is March 20, 2023.

FTIA Grant Details

These grants from UTSA Special Collections encourage instructors to design or invigorate courses with unique content from Special Collections. They give faculty the opportunity to implement innovative archives-centered pedagogical approaches that introduce students to various primary sources, engage students in in-depth archival research, build critical-thinking skills, and enhance participation in collaborative projects and presentations.

The library will award three FTIA grants at $1,000 each. One for integrating Chicano research collections into a course, and two for integrating any Special Collections research materials into a course.

For more information, visit the FTIA Grants page or contact Special Collections' Librarian Steph Noell.

Adopt-a-Free-Textbook Grant Details

Adopt-a-Free-Textbook Grants support and enable faculty to adopt or create free or Open Educational Resources (OER) textbooks as the primary textbooks in their courses. There are three categories for submitting applications: 1) No Cost, 2) Adoption, and 3) Design. No-cost grants enable faculty to adopt library e-books, articles, or other library material. Adoption grants enable recipients to adopt existing OER for their course.  Design grants enable recipients to create new OER and provide the opportunity to involve students in the process.
