New Blackboard feature saves faculty time, reduces student costs

With the onset of the Fall 2022 semester approaching, UTSA Libraries and Academic Innovation announce the availability of a new feature in Blackboard, the university’s learning management system, aptly named Library Reading List. It works similarly to the Libraries’ existing Course Reserves service but is a self-service tool that is interactive and will save faculty time as they build and manage their own course reserves and reading lists. Faculty can use either service as they prep for the new semester.
Remembering Mexican cooking expert Diana Kennedy

Culinary anthropologist Diana Kennedy passed away in her home in Zitácuaro, Michoacán, Mexico on Sunday, July 24. She was 99 years old.
UTSA Libraries Announces Temporary Closure of the Assembly Room

The John Peace Library Assembly Room located on the fourth floor (4.04.22) will see improvements to modernize the space and enhance services for the UTSA community. Beginning Monday, August 22, 2022, the room will be closed throughout the fall semester, reopening in early spring 2023.
Preserving centuries old Mexican cookbook collection
UTSA Libraries will host its annual ¡Ven a Comer! fundraising dinner June 17 at the Pearl’s renowned Hotel Emma. The invitation-only event supports the UTSA Libraries Special Collections Mexican cookbook collection, the largest in the nation.
Writing Program Awarded State Grant
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) awards a $25,000 OER Grant to UTSA faculty to tailor a Creative Commons textbook for Writing Program 1013 class.
Management Science and Statistics Awarded State Grant
In Summer 2021, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board awarded a $5,000 OER Implementation Grant to two UTSA faculty.
Geology Professor Tailors Free Textbook for Students
Geology of National Parks (GEO 1033), a new core-curriculum course for non-science majors approved in Spring 2022, will be taught for the first time in Fall 2022.
UTSA Libraries will host the STEM Librarians South 2022 Conference
Now in its 12th year, the STEM Librarians South 2022 Conference will take place Thursday and Friday, July 28-29. Organized and hosted by UTSA Libraries, the virtual conference will bring together information professionals and academics to discuss current research, ideas, insights, and best practices that advance STEM research and education. STEM Librarians South is the first conference to focus solely on STEM librarianship. UTSA also hosted the inaugural conference in 2011.
