Adaptive Technologies

UTSA Libraries provide adaptive technology for patrons with disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Visit Student Disability Services to learn about other available technology on campus.

John Peace Library (JPL)

Adaptive Technology Computer Lab

The Adaptive Technology Computer Lab is located on the 2nd floor of JPL near the Front Desk. There are four accessible workstations in the lab, loaded with the following software:

  • ZoomText
  • Freedom Scientific JAWS
  • Dragon Naturally Speaking
  • Kurzweil 3000

Additional Equipment in the Lab Includes

  • CCTV
  • 2 scanners

The Adaptive Technology Lab is open during normal library hours. The computers are reserved for students registered with Student Disability Services. Students who have questions or issues regarding the lab can contact any Student Computing Services staff member at the Information Desk or contact OITConnect at (210) 458-5555 or oitconnect@utsa.edu.

Hearing Assistance Devices

 The GroupSpot (2.01.16) and Assembly (4.04.22) rooms at JPL are each equipped with a hearing assistance system that is integrated into the audiovisual equipment in the room.  There are two types of receivers available for use:

  • LR-200-072 Standard 3-Channel RF Receiver (72 MHz)
  • LA-166 Neck Loop

These devices are available to checkout from the JPL Front Desk.

Laptops for Checkout

ZoomText is available on laptops that can be checked out at JPL and the Downtown Campus Library. See our Laptop Borrowing Policy for more information.

Downtown Library

A room with two accessible workstations is located across from the periodicals shelves near the group study rooms and is loaded with the following software:

  • ZoomText
  • Freedom Scientific JAWS
  • Kurzweil 3000
  • Dragon Naturally Speaking

One of the accessible workstations has a scanner attached, as well as a document/book magnifier nearby.
